Cathie Lambert is a Uniting Church minister, spiritual director and retreat leader currently working with Uniting College for Theology and Leadership as the Director of Pastoral Theology and Ministry Practice. Cathie completed her PhD thesis in 2022 which explored how contemporary women on the edge of the church respond to the lives and works of the beguine mystics from the thirteenth century. Of particular focus were the implications for the practice of spiritual direction. Cathie’s thesis has been published by Routledge and is titled Dissident Women, Beguines, and the Quest for Spiritual Authority. During her HDR study, Cathie was the Research Student Representative on the Pilgrim Academic Board and the inaugural recipient of the Janette Gray PhD Scholarship in 2020.
Prior to joining UCLT, Cathie served as the Program Director for Dayspring in formation of spiritual directors, Formation and Learning Culture Co-ordinator for the Uniting Church in Western Australia, and Research Project Administrator for the Spirited Project at Whitley College. She is currently the Chair of the Uniting Church Assembly Commission for Theology, Formation and Leadership and the President of the Australian Network for Spiritual Direction. Cathie has also served in Uniting Church ministry placements in school chaplaincy (Penrhos College) and congregational ministry (Margaret River/Augusta).
Cathie has taught in the areas of spirituality, history of mysticism, spiritual formation, ministry practice, worship, ritual, and preaching. She enjoys creative approaches to experiential learning including art, poetry, story and music. Cathie loves walking in nature, musical theatre, reading historical fiction and trying new crafts.
