My soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. (Psalm 130:6, NRSV) As the day closes, I centre again on the Presence of the Three I worship you God, the keeper of my soul. I embrace you Jesus, my constant companion. I inhale you Spirit, promise of the world to come. Steadfast God Be our rock this night Faithful Christ Be our rest this night Watchful Spirit Be our guard this night (Repeat) Pause in silence As I listen to your word may I hear your gentle whisper. Readings from the Lectionary May your word be in my sleeping, my dreaming and my waking this night, that it may watch over and replenish my soul. Time for reflection God, of your goodness give me yourself for you are sufficient for me. I cannot properly ask anything less, to be worthy of you. If I were to ask less I should always be in want. In you alone do I have all. (Prayer of Julian of Norwich) Pause in silence Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Silence or Prayer for others Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly. (Matthew 11:28-30, The Message) Alone with none but you, my God, I journey on my way. What need I fear when you are near, O king of night and day? More safe am I within your hand Than if a host did round me stand. Amen. (Prayer of Columba of Iona) |
